A 61-year-old man who was an inmate at the Boonville Correctional Center about a year and a half ago and has been charged with a couple of felonies for allegedly attacking one of its personnel on July 1, 2020, is due in court.

According to a probable-cause statement, William Riggs is accused of entering a Housing Unit at the facility physically attacking the Institutional Probation Officer. Riggs also allegedly admitted to an investigator that he had planned to rape her.

Court documents say Riggs is charged with felonies for violence to an employee of the department of corrections by an inmate and rape or attempted rape in the first degree- aggravated sexual assault.

Riggs’ pleaded not guilty on March 2, 2021, and his case was bound over to circuit court on November 30. Riggs is scheduled to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 10, at Cooper County Circuit Court.
