The Marshall Public School board members met in a special meeting on Tuesday, January 11, to discuss the updated plan for high school students, following Superintendent Dr. Carol Mahers announcement that the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) would not be extending its current in-person/remote learning plan – put in place after the fire in November 2021.
Christy Jones, MHS Principal, says starting Tuesday, January 18, students will be divided between four buildings.
Jones says with these four locations the students, staff and high school administrative teams can be in close proximity. The Marshall High School will serve as the “Hub” where students who ride buses – or walk to school – come to check-in.
Furthermore, Jones explained how the food service would work within this plan.
Jones says the administrative teams worked together to create plan on how to execute course work, including dual credit, SCCC and elective classes.
In other news, Jones announced MHS will be transitioning to the Edmentum Curriculum program. The program “allows teachers to create standards-based coursework; measure the value and effectiveness of curriculum based on student performance; and design real-time content adjustments for individual students or for an entire class.”
Due to MHS staff training, the school board announced high school students will not have class on Friday, January 14. Elementary, middle school, and SCCC (Hours 2 and 3) Block students are expected to be in class Friday.
