
A second person charged in connection with the killing of Robert G. Fox in Sedalia on February 20, 2020, has a court proceeding scheduled.
According to a probable-cause statement, an investigation revealed that Joseph D. Rankin, of Sedalia, allegedly shot Fox while they were inside a vehicle in a fight, according to a witness.
Sedalia Police officers were dispatched to the 700 block of East 17th Street where they found Fox lying in the street, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The investigation- including the movement of a vehicle- led to the arrest of Daniel Fernandez.
Fernandez originally was charged with felonies for murder in the second degree, kidnapping in the second degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
On May 17, Fernandez pleaded guilty to a felony for voluntary manslaughter and a misdemeanor for kidnapping in the third degree.
The judge sentenced Fernandez to eight years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on the manslaughter charge and one year in jail on the kidnapping charge, with the sentences to run consecutively.
Now, Rankin is charged with felonies for murder in the second degree, armed criminal action, kidnapping in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon- exhibiting.
A change of venue request was granted, and a case review is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, January 24, at Saline County Circuit Court.
