
Joseph William “Jay” Twenter, 93, of Sedalia, died Friday, January 28, 2022 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born November 5, 1928 in Clifton City, MO a son of the late Albert Henry and Eleanor Catherine (Pabst) Twenter. On May 2, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Marvella May (Butler) Twenter, who preceded him in death on March 27, 2020.
Jay was a 1946 graduate of Smithton High School. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Salzburg, Austria. Jay started working for Patterson Brothers Construction in 1948. He would go on to start his own business in 1978 and continued working until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Carpenters Local 1492. Jay was an active member of the Sacred Heart Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, dancing and gardening. Jay always loved family gatherings and playing cards with family and friends.
Jay is survived by his children, Judy (Mike) Buckallew of Mexico, MO, Janet (James) Jones of Huntsville, TX, Mike (Donnie) Twenter of Jefferson City, Theresa Bain of Sedalia, Ann (Steve) Dove of Green Ridge, Jim (Jeri) Twenter of Cibolo, TX, Steve (Renee) Twenter of Sedalia, Sue (Marvin) Perkins of Cole Camp, Chris Hanlon of Sedalia and Tom (Diedre) Twenter of Independence; a step-sister, Ruth Mergen of Sedalia; 32 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Dan Hanlon and George Bain Jr.; a brother, Harold Twenter; two sisters, Alberta Patterson and Henrietta Rouchka; and a step-sister, Rosalie Weller.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jay and Marvella will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Sacred Heart Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the church with visitation to follow until service time at the church. The family kindly requests those attending the services to please wear a mask.
