An area police department is warning residents of an Amazon scam.

According to the Boonville Police Department, it has received several calls from citizens reporting they have gotten phone calls from someone claiming to work at Amazon. The caller asks about inquiries regarding an “order” that has been placed online.

Authorities say several numbers have been used. These numbers may actually belong a person but are being spoofed.

The police department says, “We have never heard of Amazon calling a consumer directly. We urge residents to simply hang up.”
