Lexington Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of Business Highway 13 over the weekend.

Department officials say, upon arrival, Chief Brad Weber reported heavy smoke and fire was pushing through the north window of the second floor.

Three Lexington firefighters made the initial attack on the second floor, and they were assisted a few minutes later by Wellington-Napoleon firefighters, who brought a second hose line to the second floor. Additional help was provided by Mayview and Higginsville Fire Protection Districts.

Ray County Ambulance provided coverage for the town.

The fire was ruled accidental, and the American Red Cross provided assistance to the family affected by the fire.

Lexington Police also assisted at the scene.
