Did you know that plastic water bottles have a high carbon footprint?

According to officials at West Central Waste Management District Region F, over 480 billion plastic bottles were used worldwide in a single year.

Additionally, plastic water bottles are highly misused when they are tossed partially consumed and oftentimes are not recycled appropriately. This waste goes directly to landfills and can be seen scattered as litter across land and seas.

Officials at Region F say plastic bottle marketing schemes target consumers to believe they are engaging in “The Healthier” consumption model, however there are viable alternatives to hydrating in a more effective, efficient and environmentally-friendly way. Instead of buying into the single-use water bottles, they urge you to try purchasing an alternative such as a reusable neoprene bottle, glass bottle, stainless steel bottle, thermos or flask. All of these solutions can be found at any local retail store, second-hand shop or garage sale for a reasonable price.

If you must drink from a plastic bottle, remember to only discard the bottle after all contents have been consumed and recycle it appropriately.
