Officers were dispatched to a gas station in reference to a disturbance on Saturday, February 5.
According to the Higginsville Police Department, the suspect had allegedly made inappropriate remarks toward women and had sexually assaulted a female at Pilot Travel Center. This prompted a physical disturbance between a patron and the suspect.
Upon arrival authorities began speaking with a witness/victim. The suspect then allegedly entered a reported stolen vehicle and accelerated the vehicle towards an officer and the victim – both were able to flee unharmed.
Authorities say the three officers at the scene engaged in a pursuit with the driver on eastbound I-70. Failed attempts were made by other law enforcement agencies to spike the vehicle.
The pursuit ended with the suspect disabling the stolen vehicle by attempting to cross over from I-70 to the outer road. The suspect still refused to surrender and had to be taken into custody with the assistance of a Cooper County canine.
The suspect, a Jackson County resident, was transported to the Lafayette County jail – pending charges of assault, tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and misdemeanors of leaving the scene of an accident and assault.
Per KMMO policy the name of the subject will not be released until formal charges are filed.
