Authorities responded to the report of a disturbance involving a handgun at a motel on Thursday, February 10.

According to a release from the Boonville Police Department, at approximately 9:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Super 8 Motel on Americana Drive.

Officers found a female victim who had been assaulted and were advised that her boyfriend had a weapon in his possession during the assault.

Officers searched the immediate area- which included a motel rooms that were listed as vacant and they located the victim’s boyfriend inside one of the vacant rooms. While placing the man under arrest, a handgun was located in his possession. He was arrested.

During a search of the room where the man was actually staying, a large amount of drugs including prescription medications were found.

The suspect currently is in the Cooper County Detention Center on a 24-hour hold and has not formally been charged at this time.

Per KMMO policy, the name of the man arrested will not be released until formal charges are filed.
