With the Independence Day celebration in less than four months, the Higginsville Board of Aldermen approved two bills regarding fireworks during its meeting this week.

According to City Administrator Jeanette Dobson, the board approved an agreement to pay up to $8,000 for the Higginsville Chamber’s fireworks purchase. This is an increase of $1,000 over last year due to the rising cost of fireworks. The board approved the agreement, and the Chamber will reimburse the city.

Dobson said aldermen also gave the green light to an ordinance for an agreement with the Higginsville Lions Club to design and conduct a fireworks display on Monday, July 4.
