A Marshall man who is facing charges for allegedly grabbing a woman’s daughter in an inappropriate area of her body and slapping the woman in the face during an incident on September 22, 2021, is due in court.

Utilizing a description given by the mother, Marshall Police officers identified the man and took him into custody. Authorities say the suspect kicked an officer in the knee, and during transport to the police department, the subject kicked the windshield and Mobile Data Terminal in the patrol car and attempted to bite the officer several times.

Court documents say Alfred Gerome Laney is charged with a felony for sexual abuse in the second degree and misdemeanors for two counts of assault in the fourth degree and one count of escape or attempted escape from custody. Bond remains at $7,500 cash only.

Laney’s case was bound over to the trial division on November 3. A plea/trial-setting hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, March 14, at Saline County Circuit Court.
