Geary Norris, 79, of Slater, died Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, at the Slater United Methodist Church, with Pastor Molly Moore officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17,., with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to the Slater United Methodist Church or the Parkinsons Foundation.

Born October 4, 1942 in Marshall, he was the son of the late James P. and Lena Mae Neff Norris. On June 19, 1971 in Gilford, Missouri, he married Velda Giffin, and she survives of the home.

Also surviving is a son, Quintin Norris of Columbia; two daughters, Recille Dennis and her husband Levi of Slater, and Belinda Hupp and her husband Michael of Slater; two granddaughters, Asya LeBrun and Tatym Dennis; and a sister, Ara Lou Kaye of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Norris; and an infant sister, Mary Martha Norris.

Mr. Norris was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church, where he had served in many leadership roles. He was a certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church, speaking in various congregations throughout Missouri. He was a member of the Arrow Rock Masonic Lodge #55 A.F. & A.M. He was a 1960 graduate of Slater High School, and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. He served on the Slater Fire Department for twenty-five years, and worked as an investigator for the State Fire Marshal’s office. He retired from Butterfield Youth Services in Marshall, where he had worked as a Safety & Information Officer.
