Demolition of an old, dilapidated eyesore of a building in the 1500 block of South Odell Avenue in Marshall that has been vacant for several years has begun.
During the meeting of the city council March 7, City Administrator JD Kehrman explained the start of the demolition of the old IGA building was delayed to earlier this week.
Equipment was moved to the area, and that demolition started in earnest on Tuesday, March 15. It is progressing, with the total project to include demolition of the buildings and parking lot, leaving only a dirt lot.
The up-front cost of the agreement with REMCO is $130,000. Kehrman said the city will be reimbursed the cost of demolition by the property owner over time.
