On Monday, March 21, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver II is scheduled to visit Lafayette and Saline Counties to highlight the local impact of several community projects where he was able to secure federal funding.

According to a press release four projects in the counties are able to move forward because of the $5,147,000 in funding secured by Representative Cleaver.

Funding for several projects that will directly benefit rural residents in Fifth Congressional District include:

  • $2,000,000 for the Health Care Coalition of Rural Missouri to improve services in Lexington and Buckner
  • $2,000,000 for Missouri Valley College to build a new 17,000 square foot Health Professions Building to house the Nursing Program and ultimately other health care profession programs
  • $1,000,000 for the demolition and abatement of the former Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, with the intent to transform the property into 56 safe, affordable workforce housing units for families
  • $147,000 for the City of Slater to develop new well field protection measures to assure businesses and residents of northeast Saline County have an uninterrupted supply of portable water during periods of seasonal flooding.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. Cleaver’s will be at Missouri Valley College, located at 500 East College Street in Marshall. He is then scheduled to visit Slater City Hall at 232 North Main Street at 11:30 a.m.

The day is scheduled to conclude at Health Care Collaborative of Rural Missouri at 825 South Highway 13 in Lexington – beginning at 1 p.m.
