The Saline County Commission met in special emergency session on Wednesday, March 23, to discuss the turn lane project as part of the ongoing economic development work at Marshall Junction.
Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. explains the commission was informed it needed to pay out some money in order to keep the project moving forward.
Guthrey said commissioners had a choice to make, whether or not to take out another loan to make the payment or take it out of Fund 57. Fund 57 is the fund for the five entities- Marshall, Slater, Sweet Springs, Arrow Rock and the smaller communities in the county- from proceeds of the half-cent sales tax approved by voters in April 2018. Guthrey explained it wasn’t feasible to take out another loan, with time being a factor.
Guthrey explained it could affect the amount of money the entities will get for their yearly payout from the tax.
Commissioners approved the payment of $263,818.70 to come out of Fund 57.
