Two Saline County residents have been charged after allegedly exhibiting a weapon during an altercation with a man at a residence in Nelson on March 25.

According to a probable-cause statement, a man said Lon Spencer Venable, of Slater, and Brett Sullivan, of Marshall, broke into his residence and got into an altercation with him in front of the house. Sullivan is alleged to have pulled out a firearm and discharged a round to the side of the victim. Venable and Sullivan left before law enforcement arrived, but they were apprehended later. Saline County deputies recovered a spent 9mm Luger shell casing at the scene.

Court documents say each Sullivan and Venable is charged with a felony for unlawful use of a weapon-exhibiting and a trespassing misdemeanor.

Venable posted $750 and Sullivan $7,500 surety bond on March 28.

Each defendant has a hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Saline County Circuit Court.
