The Slater City Council was brought up to speed on a grant the city is going to be receiving from the federal government during its meeting this week.

City Administrator Gene Griffith said U.S. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II aided the city in securing nearly $150,000.

Griffith says there still are some I’s to dot and T’s to cross before the city actually gets the funds.

In other news, the council approved a request for a picnic license from the American Legion to host a cornhole tournament at the Slater Volkfest building on Saturday, June 18.
