Dennis E. Hartwig, age 73, of Blackburn, died Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating.  Burial with military rites will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery south of Marshall Junction.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to family choice and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born July 23, 1948, in Sweet Springs, MO, he was the son of the late Edward Hartwig and Margaret Meyer Hartwig.  Dennis lived in Saline County his entire life and was a 1967 graduate of LaSalle High School in Blackburn.  He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany and Europe, and was a member of Tieman-Blackburn American Legion Post 478.  Dennis worked at Wilson Foods for 17 years and then was a truck driver for many years until his retirement from Eidson and Ussery Trucking Company.  On July 8, 1992, he married Patsy Pattrick Gifford who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, Patsy; he is survived by two granddaughters who were raised in Dennis and Patsy’s home, Brittany E. Thompson (Joseph) of Marshall and Ashley L. Gifford of Columbia; four great-grandchildren: Trever B. Mendez, Kinzleigh F. Mendez, Elin Thompson, and Knox Thompson; three sisters: Betty Schlichting (Jim) of Oak Grove, Barbara Kennedy of Marshall, and Tamara Bredehoeft (Ron) of Alma; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and a step-son, Jimmy Gifford.
