
A Kansas City man has been charged with felonies after authorities were dispatched to the sound of two gunshots in the Bates City area on May 10, 2021.
According to a probable cause statement, multiple witnesses allegedly observed Jesse Joe Morris and another man get into an argument in a parking lot near Morris’s vehicle. The reported incident escalated when both Morris and the man pulled out handguns and fired shots into the air. Both men fled the scene in different vehicles after the shots were fired. Authorities from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office recovered a .45 caliber “Blazer” shell casing from the scene of the alleged incident.
Court documents say Morris is charged with felonies for unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a firearm. Morris posted $7,500 surety bond on March 25, 2022.
Morris has a counsel-status hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
