During the most recent meeting of the Marshall Municipal Utilities’ Board of Public Works, board members discussed multiple action items.

The board approved a motion to request bids for two stationary lead acid battery strings for Miami and Southeast Substations. The current batteries in the substations were installed in January of 2004. These batteries have an average life expectancy of 20 years. These batteries provide direct current (DC) power for trip close circuits, protective relaying, and communication devices. The budget is set at $60,000.

The board reviewed a motion to remove sludge from lagoon number two. Water Treatment Director Travis Boss gave a report about the lagoon. Boss says the lagoon has not been cleaned in quite some time.

Boss recommended the removal of the sludge to avoid any future issues.

The board approved the motion and plan to request proposals for sludge removal in all three sections of lagoon number 2.

In other news, the board approved the updated Marshall Municipal Utilities Mission Statement.
