
Elizabeth Renee Blumhorst, age 56, of rural Blackwater, MO, died Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with Dr. Michael Kateman and William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will follow at Arrow Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at First Baptist Church in Marshall.

Born March 1, 1966, in Marshall, she was the daughter of Donald Wayne Kateman, who survives of rural Blackwater, and the late Georgia Ann Deer Kateman. Beth was a 1984 graduate of Marshall High School, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and then received her Master’s Degree from Lindenwood University. On November 22, 1989, she married Chris William Blumhorst who survives of the home. Beth’s teaching career began in 1989 at Prairie Home R-V School until 1992 when she then started teaching Hardeman R-10 School. She finished her 31-year teaching career at Bueker Middle School in Marshall when she retired in 2020. Beth was a sponsor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes from 2006-2020, as well as the volleyball coach from 1989 until her retirement. Beth’s professional memberships included the Missouri State Teacher’s Association and Community Teacher’s Association. Beth loved Arrow Rock and served as a trustee and on the education committee for the Friends of Arrow Rock. Since she had more free time during the summers, she worked every summer at Arrow Rock State Historic Site for 31 years. Beth was a member of First Baptist Church in Marshall where she had served as the church trustee’s committee secretary, the 9th grade Sunday school teacher for five years, and a library assistant for 13 years.
Beth is survived by her husband, Chris, of the home; her father, Donald Kateman (Lillian) of rural Blackwater; one brother; Dr. Michael Kateman of rural Arrow Rock; bonus sisters, Bethany Weiker (Jason) of Slater, and Jane Vogl (Kenny) of Slater, as well as their families; two nephews, Chad Kateman and Brady Kateman; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.
