The Missouri Valley College Debate and Forensics team competed at the first-ever College Public Forum League National Tournament April 9-10.

A press release says MVC defeated the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee on the way to the debate tournament final, eventually falling to Yale in a close contest.

Eva Agcaoili and Camden Phillips made it to the final round and finished second behind the team from Yale University.

Cuauhtemoc Olvera and Evan Tindle also made it to elimination rounds, and wound up third overall.

“Having three of the top five teams in the country in Public Forum debate in this very new league was an incredibly rewarding experience and helped to cement Missouri Valley’s place in the debate scene,” MVC Debate Coach David Bowers said.

At the NFA National Awards Ceremony, Phillips was named the seventh-place speaker in the nation out of nearly 100 other debaters from higher-education institutions of every size.

The Missouri Valley College Debate and Forensics team is scheduled to host a college and high school camp on campus this summer.
