A Marshall man who was not prosecuted in relation to the shooting death of 31-year-old Joshua Charles Smith on December 29, 2018, has been charged with multiple felonies in unrelated alleged incidents in Saline County last year.

According to probable-cause statements, James Scott Miller is said to have switched price tags on items during five different visits to Walmart in Marshall in November and December 2021. The losses incurred by Walmart in the incidents totaled more than $377. Authorities reviewed surveillance video to confirm the suspect engaging in illegal activity. The total of the loss did not warrant a felony charge.

According to court documents, Miller is charged with five separate felonies for forgery and five separate misdemeanors for stealing. Bond in each case is set at $2,500 cash or surety with 10 percent allowed.

Miller’s initial hearing is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
