The Waverly Police Department alerts the town’s residents of a new speed zone.
After about a yearlong process, the school zone in front of the Santa Fe Elementary School is now active.
On school days, during the hours of 7 to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m. a School Zone speed limit is now in effect. You will see the flashing yellow lights, which means it’s time to slow down.
The speed limit will drop to 25 mph during the hours mentioned to better protect students and staff during periods of high traffic to and from the school.
The City of Waverly has adopted a School Zone Speeding Ordinance, which has the standard fine set (same as normal speeding), with an additional $25 fee due to it being in the School Zone.
Police officials say, “The goal for the School Zone implementation is to slow people down, and protect the safety of everyone at the Elementary School. Help us accomplish this goal by doing your part and slowing down when the lights are flashing.”
