An 11-day investigation into a former Sweet Springs resident who had been missing for more than two years has led to her being located.

According to Sweet Springs Police Chief Tammy Johnson, on April 18, 2022, she met with Leda Graham who came to the police department to report that her daughter, Cheana Blemings, had not been seen nor heard from since November of 2019, and she was hitting walls everywhere she turned in trying to get someone to help her.

Chief Johnson took a missing person’s report and entered the information into the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System, and sent out a Nationwide Missing Person BOLO and began her investigation.

Chief Johnson worked all day and night throughout the 11 days, contacting hospitals, coroners, friends and family. Chief Johnson followed through on every tip.

At approximately 6:36 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, Chief Johnson received a call from a police department in Colorado stating that they believe they had contact with Blemings within the last month. Chief Johnson worked throughout the night with the officers and at 1:26 a.m. on Friday, April 29, Blemings was located in person and spoke with Chief Johnson on the telephone. Blemings had been located, and her family was notified on her 32nd birthday.

The family is making arrangements to go and see Blemings.

Chief Johnson and the City of Sweet Springs wishes Blemings and her family a safe trip and that everything works out well for them. Chief Johnson would also like to thank everyone who called in and assisted in this investigation and wants everyone to never give up, there is always hope.
