The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s rodeo teams finished their 2021-22 regular seasons, each winning the Northwest Mississippi rodeo in Senatobia over the weekend. The teams combined to win four events.

In bareback riding, the Valley men’s team had with the top five finishers in the average, led by junior Cole Franks with a 159. Franks tied for first in the first go-round with an 83 and won the second go-round with a 76. He scored 175 points. Senior Nick Pelke was second with a 157. He tied for first in the first go-round with an 83 and tied for second in the second go-round with a 74. Pelke scored 150 points. Sophomore Ty Pope was third with a 156 to earn 125 points; senior Colton Crawford was fourth with a 144 to score 90 points; and sophomore Max Fillinger was fifth with a 127 to add 50 points.

In saddle bronc riding, Pope won the average with a 154. He tied for first in the first go-round with a 76, and won the second go-round with a 78 and earned 175 points. Franks placed second with a 142. He finished second in the second go-round with a 68 and earned 130 points. Senior Chance Masters tied for first in the first go-round with a 76 and finished with 75 points.

Freshman Kenlie Raby led the Lady Vikings by winning the breakaway roping average with a 4.9. She tied for first in the first go-round with a 2.2 and tied for second in the second go-round with a 2.7. She earned 160 points. Raby also placed fifth in the goat-tying average with a 15.7 to earn 60 points.

Junior Taylor Mason, of Marshall, won the average in goat tying with a 14.4. She was second in both go-rounds, finishing with 7.2 in each round and collected 160 points. Mason also was sixth in breakaway roping with a 5.8 in the average to earn 31.66 points. Senior Ana Minnick finished second in the second go-round of barrel racing with a 14.32, and was fourth in the average with a 28.86 to earn 80 points.

The Valley men totaled 900 points. The Valley cowboys have now won 20 straight Ozark Region rodeos. The final official standings will be announced later this week, but the Vikings have secured the Ozark Region championship for the sixth straight season. East Mississippi finished second with 685 points.

The Lady Vikings accumulated 411.66 points. This is their second rodeo win this season. They also won the East Mississippi rodeo in March. Pearl River (Miss.) was second with 216.66 points.

The Lady Vikings were third in the Ozark Region standings going into this past weekend, trailing second place East Mississippi by 178.34 points. East Mississippi finished with 155 points this past weekend. The final Ozark Region standings will be announced later this week. The two programs atop the final region standings compete as a team at the College National Finals Rodeo in June.
