Sitting mostly vacant for three decades, a dilapidated structure in Marshall could be demolished in the coming months.

During its meeting on Monday, May 2, the city council was asked to approve the first reading of an ordinance for an agreement between the city and Remco Demolition LLC to abate and demolish old Fitzgibbon Hospital in the 800 block of South Brunswick Avenue.

City Administrator JD Kehrman explained some of the particulars about financing for the project that will cost more than a half-million dollars.

Kehrman explained it could take a while to tear down this structure.

Kehrman was asked if there was any urgency in needing to move this ordinance along quickly with two readings during the council meeting.

The council approved the first reading of the ordinance. It will be brought back for a second reading during a future meeting.
