After Ward 1 Councilman Dewey Hendrix was approved by the council to become Mayor and fill out the unexpired term of Julie Schwetz, who resigned in March, Leon Thompson- who decided not to run for a second term during this past Municipal Election- was appointed by Hendrix and approved by the sitting council to fill out his unexpired term, drawing ire from some audience members on April 18.

At the council meeting on Monday, May 2, Marshall resident Crystal Naomesi urged the new council to remove Leon Thompson. She said she is also trying to find out answers as to what happened to more than $230,000 in surplus for the sanitation department for the past two years. She urged the council to be transparent about what is happening with residents’ tax dollars.

Naomesi is referring to a police report from November 2014 from the state of Washington.

In reference to removing a sitting council member, Naomesi said….

Naomesi asked the council to remove Leon Thompson and appoint Ken Bryant, who had expressed interest in taking the seat.

In reference to the $230,000, Councilmen Drew Green and Tim Reeder explained they are seeking answers.

Leon Thompson was not in attendance.

At the end of the meeting, Mayor Hendrix appointed Leon Thompson, Craig Thompson, Reeder and Dan Brandt to the Property, Finance, Budget and Audit Committee.
