Demolition of an old, dilapidated structure that has sat mostly vacant for three decades should take place in the coming months.
During its meeting on Monday, May 16, the city council was asked to approve the second reading of an ordinance for an agreement between the city and Remco Demolition LLC to abate and demolish old Fitzgibbon Hospital in the 800 block of South Brunswick Avenue.
Councilman Leon Thompson asked City Administrator JD Kehrman about the final bid.
Thompson explained the funds for the demolition are available.
At an earlier meeting, Kehrman explained it could take a while to raze this structure once the process begins.
In other news, the council approved a request for $3,675 to be paid to the Marshall Chamber of Commerce to help fund the annual fireworks display that will conclude the Independence Day Celebration on Monday, July 4.
