Three Pilot Grove residents suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle fiery traffic crash in Cooper County on Sunday, May 22.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as 19-year-old Ivan Sebastian Alvarez lost control of his northbound vehicle while traveling through a curve. His vehicle rotated clockwise into the path of a southbound vehicle, driven by 68-year-old Donald Wilson. Wilson’s vehicle struck Alvarez’s vehicle in its side, and both vehicles traveled off the roadway and became fully engulfed in flames.

Wilson was flown by Life Flight helicopter, and a passenger in his vehicle- 55-year-old Sandra Wilson- and Alvarez were transported by Cooper County ambulances to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

The crash happened at 4:18 p.m. on Highway 135 at Mile Corner Road.
