Twenty-one persons- including 19 school kids and two teachers- were killed in a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, May 25. The 18-year-old shooter also was killed by a Border Patrol team- making the total death toll 22.

It is the latest in a string of mass shootings just this month. According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), there have been 41 mass shootings to date in May in the United States- which have resulted in more than 60 dead and over 200 injured.

So, what if something like that happens in a town in Saline County?

During the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, May 26, Saline County Emergency Management Agency Director Tony Day explained what his agency’s role would be.

Day says the Marshall Public School District has a plan.

Day says schools will follow a specific plan until it needs to be changed.

Day said, “It’s something everybody’s thinking about with these last two or three shootings we’ve had. I’m sure they will be doing more updates on their plans and training.”
