A walk-off base hit after four extra innings left the Marshall Owls on the wrong side of a 6-5 decision versus Southern Boone in a Class 4 semifinal baseball game at Ozark on Wednesday.

The game was tied at five when the Eagles’ Austin Evans singled on a 1-2 count off the Owls’ fourth pitcher Logan Deal, scoring one run after the bases were loaded with two out on two walks and a hit by pitch.

The Owls jumped out in front 4-0 with two runs in each the second and third innings. The Eagles chopped the lead in half with single runs in the third and fourth frames.

After the Owls scored one run in the top of the sixth on Seth Hoffman’s sacrifice fly, Southern Boone answered with one in the bottom half. Southern Boone tied the game with two in the bottom of the seventh.

Aiden Coffman took the loss for Marshall. He surrendered one run on zero hits over one and two-thirds innings, walking two.

Coy Smith started the game for the Owls. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three.

Marshall racked up seven hits. Coltyn Wise and Hoffman each had two hits. Deal scored two runs and Coffman drove in two.

The win was the fifth in a row for Southern Boone and 21st in its last 22 games, improving to 33-2.

Meanwhile, Marshall saw a five-game winning streak end as the Owls dropped to 12-18. The Owls have to now turn around and play Kennett, which is 25-5, for third place at 10 am this morning in action to be heard on KMMO AM 1300 and on www.kmmo.com.

In the other Class 4 semifinal-round matchup on Wednesday, No. 4-ranked Logan-Rogersville rolled all over top-ranked Kennett, 11-1, in six innings.

The championship game is Southern Boone vs. 26-7 Logan-Rogersville at 1 p.m.
