Area first responders pulled numerous persons from floodwaters this week.
According to the Pettis County Fire Department, on June 1, its firefighters responded to 10 calls starting at 12:10 a.m.
Out of those calls, eight of them were responding to Swift Water Rescue calls.
A fire department spokesperson says, “Luckily, out of those calls, everyone ended up safe, but there were some really close calls, and those that I am talking about are lucky to be here today. Please, please, please do not take chances with flooded areas.”
The spokesperson adds, “The first thing is you really have no idea how deep the water is. Second, you have no idea how strong the current can be. Third, you may think you know where the road is, but when there is no road visible, it is really hard to navigate the direction of the road, or that it’s possibly washed out. Pettis County Fire cannot stress enough to not enter flooded areas.”
The spokesperson concludes with, “I know that we were not the only department responding to water rescue calls all day; several other departments were also in the same situation that we were in. Don’t take chances with water over the roadway.”
