UPDATED INFORMATION POSTED AT 2:40 P.M. SATURDAY, JUNE 4
Due to an incident that happened on Sunday, May 29, in executive session of its board meeting this week, the Marshall Park Board voted to close the Marshall Aquatic Center until increased safety measures for its employees and patrons could be obtained.
It turns out, the closure will only be a few days.
According to an updated release from Marshall Parks and Recreation, the Marshall Aquatic Center will be reopening on Monday, June 6. However, safety and security measures will be increased.
The release says: When the pool reopens, there will be additional protocols put in place:
-Security guard(s) will be on the property;
-Loungers will be on the pool deck; no outside chairs will be allowed;
-No water guns or anything that sprays water will be allowed;
-No flotation devices or recreational rafts, except for Coast Guard-approved fitted life jackets;
-No baseballs, footballs, beach balls or any other type of ball will be allowed;
-Food will have to remain in the concession stand area;
-The Marshall Police Department may perform close-patrol and occasional walk-throughs; and
-The slide will have two workers operating the slide area.
Marshall Parks and Recreation Director Chad Unterreiner explains more about the police presence.
Unterreiner says the pool temperatures were too cool anyway for the pool to be open on Thursday and Friday of this week, so the weekend days are the only ones that truly were days missed due to the board-voted closure. He said the water temperature needs to be at least a steady 70 to 72 degrees, with the outside temperature being warm.
