A couple of resolutions were on the agenda of the Higginsville Board of Aldermen during its meeting on Monday, June 6.
City Administrator Jeanette Dobson explained they were to authorize her to file an application with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources regarding the city’s multi-million dollar sewer, water and wastewater project.
Dobson says these resolutions authorize the filing of the application for funds to aid in the completion of the specific projects involving drinking water, wastewater and/or stormwater.
Dobson says, “We are heavily pursuing these additional grant funds, and they have the capacity of providing significant additional funding four our water/sewer project.”
Dobson also notes that in April 2022, the city successfully closed on the refinancing of the 2010 Sewer Revenue Bonds, which will contribute approximately $714,000 of savings to the city’s Wastewater Fund and shortened the remaining repayment of debt from 12 years to three years.
Aldermen approved the resolutions.
In other news, the board OK’d a request by the Higginsville Chamber of Commerce to close 31st Street between Cypress and Highway 13 for the Independence Day Celebration on Monday, July 4.
Also, Jeremy Nevels and Jerry Fiene were recognized for 20 and five years of service, respectively, as city employees; and approved the commissioning of Tate Workcuff as a full-time police officer. Dobson said Workcuff graduates from the Police Academy on Friday, June 10, and will move into his new officer’s position. Workcuff began his employment with the city on January 25, 2021, as a dispatcher.
