Donald L. Layman (Don), age 83, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Life Care Center in Carrollton, Missouri.

Don was the son of Orville Lee and Donna Ruth (Gardner) Layman, born on March 18, 1939, in Hardin, Missouri. He went to school in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from Paseo High School in 1957. Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 21, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, and served until September 24, 1962. The Marines transferred him to reserves and he finished his obligation on April 26, 1963, when he was honorably discharged and received the Good Conduct Medal. He was married to Shirley Diane Klasey and they were blessed with two children, Donna, and Thomas. They later divorced.

On June 13, 1992, he married Virginia Morrison and they shared nearly thirty wonderful years together. Don made many friends during his working career and had been employed by the following: International Harvester, Barry Electric, and Waddill Lumber Yard. He enjoyed working as a dozer operator at the landfill, and being a truck driver for Waller Truck Line, where he retired after 23 years of service. Don loved woodworking and creating one-of-a kind creations, such as outdoor birdhouses, and one of his most memorable was the life size nativity scene he created for his front yard. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Don is survived by his wife, Virginia of the home; his children, Donna Marie Stafford and her significant other, Larry McCasland of Stover, Missouri, and Thomas E. Layman and wife Tina of Sharon, Iowa; one sister, Dorothy Strathman of Marshall, Missouri; a half-brother, Buford Pierce and wife Darlene of Norborne, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Tassie Little, Cody Layman, Paige Layman, Veronica Layman, Josh Scarborough, Donnie Knotts, David Knotts, Michael Knotts, Holly Searcy, and Bobby Morrison; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
