A Slater man charged with felonies after authorities were called to the scene of a reported disturbance on January 28 has been ordered to be committed to the Department of Mental Health.

Authorities say when they arrived, Scott Douglas Brown was standing the doorway of another person’s apartment holding a knife with an approximate 12-inch blade in one hand and a claw hammer in the other. After Brown was instructed to drop the weapons several times and didn’t comply, authorities deployed numerous Tasers and arrested him.

Court documents say Brown is charged with felonies for unlawful use of a weapon- exhibiting and resisting arrest for a felony.

The court ordered a mental evaluation of Brown on June 2. During his hearing on June 8, the court ordered Brown committed to the Department of Mental Health because of incompetency.

Brown waived right to preliminary hearing within 30 days. His cause is set for a status review and preliminary-hearing setting at 10:30 am. on Wednesday, August 3, at Saline County Circuit Court.
