An area eighth-grade student finished as the top archer in his division and one of the best overall in the country during the National Archery Championship Tournament held over the weekend in Louisville.

According to the Cole Camp R-1 School District, with his personal-best score of 295, Garrett Elliott took first place in the nation in the Middle School Bull’s-eye Division. He also scored another personal best of 292 in the 3D tournament and finished second overall.

According to the overall results, in the Bull’s-eye event, Elliott nailed 25 perfect 10s, and the rest of the 30 rounds hit nine of 10. In the 3D event, he had 22 perfect 10s, and the rest of the 30 rounds, he hit nine of 10.

Elliott qualified for the championship tournament after previously placing fifth at the Eastern Nationals in May.
