It is the season to celebrate this nation’s independence.

The Knob Noster Fire Department wishes everyone an enjoyable and safe Independence Day on Monday, July 4.

As a reminder, the City of Knob Noster does not allow any fireworks within the City Limits per Municipal Code Section 210.560: Prohibiting The Manufacture, Display, Sale Storage or Discharge of Fireworks
The full code can be found at: https://cityofkn.net/.

KNFD encourages everyone to take advantage of the public fireworks displays in the surrounding areas.

And if you do use fireworks outside of Knob Noster this year, you are urged to follow several safety tips from the National Safety Council:
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks;
• Older children should use them only under close adult supervision;
• Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol;
• Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear;
• Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands;
• Never light them indoors;
• Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material;
• Never point or throw fireworks at another person;
• Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting;
• Never ignite devices in a container;
• Do not try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks;
• Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding;
• Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don’t go off or in case of fire; and
• Never use illegal fireworks.

Fireworks are responsible for thousands of fires and injuries each year. Children younger than 15 years of age accounted for more than one-third (36 percent) of the estimated 2018 firework injuries.
