A large crowd gathered for an Open House at the Boonslick Regional Library- Cooper County Branch in Boonville- on Saturday, June 25.

A news release says the Open House during Heritage Days at the Library’s future home on the Kemper Campus was a big success with more than 250 in attendance.

The event was held to launch and announce the naming of the room on the Lower Garden Level that will be known as The Uncas McGuire Discovery Center. Former students, fellow teachers and friends shared memories and stories about the beloved educator who taught for over 40 years in central Missouri and nearly two decades of that time in the Boonville Public Schools. Those attending also shared their vision and ideas for programs, projects and activities for the space.

Dale Monteer donated his time to record the memories and stories from those attending. He also has offered to collect recordings, as well as schedule interviews, from those who could not attend the Open House. The memories will be included in an edited oral history of the beloved educator and friend of so many.

Anyone interested in scheduling an interview with Monteer, or who has recordings or written memories, should contact Mary Pat Abele- Chair of the Cooper County Library Building and Expansion Committee- with information about how and when they can be reached. She can be reached at (660) 888-1611 or via e-mail at marypatabele@gmail.com.

Monteer will follow up to set a mutually convenient time for interviews. Abele also can provide information about remaining Naming Opportunities at the Library and donations for the Library’s renovation and furnishings.
