
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the four persons killed Monday, June 27, when an Amtrak train struck a dump truck and derailed in Chariton County.
The driver of the truck killed was 53-year-old Billy Barton II, of Brookfield. He was pronounced deceased at the scene near Mendon by Chariton County Coroner Nyle Bowyer .
The three passengers on the train: 57-year-old Rochelle Cook and 56-year-old Kim Holsapple, both of Desoto, Kansas, were pronounced deceased at the scene by Bowyer; and 82-year-old Binh Phan, of Kansas City, was pronounced deceased at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Approximately 150 people were transported from the scene to 10 area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Amtrak has updated its numbers and says there were approximately 275 passengers and 12 crew members on board the train, which was traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago.
