A one-vehicle crash in Lafayette County resulted in the death of a Kansas man on July 1.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred when a vehicle driven by 57-year-old Gary Fortner experienced a tire blowout while traveling eastbound on I-70. Fortner’s vehicle then traveled off the roadway and overturned, causing Fortner to be ejected. Fortner was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

Fortner was pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Chad Burns.

The crash happened at 1:20 p.m. at the 32.6 mile marker on I-70.
