
Kay Plummer Graves, age 78, of Marshall, MO, died Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Randy Shannon and William W. Harlow officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Born April 10, 1944, in Boonville, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Marvin Sprigg and Emma Harvey Sprigg. Kay was raised in the Cooper County area and was a 1962 graduate of Boonville High School. On July 4, 1963, she married John E. Plummer who preceded her in death on March 26, 1998. On June 12, 2004, she married Steve Graves, and he survives of the home. Kay was a hard worker all of her life and a few of the places she worked through the years were: Paradise Donuts, Skelgas Inc., Marshall Lumber Company, Marshall Homestore, and most recently in the recorder’s office at the Saline County Courthouse. She was actively involved in her church, Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was president of Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Ministries. Before becoming a member at Cumberland, she was a member of First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed participating in the Bell Choir.
To say that Kay was active in community activities and events would be an understatement. She loved her community and did so much to help the community become a better place. Kay was a long-time member of the Mid-Day Optimist Club. She was a member of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce for many years, serving as past president, and was voted Marshall’s Citizen of the Year in 2014. She was also a member of the Chamber’s Ambassador’s Club and most recently volunteered answering the phone for the Chamber. She was proud of the hospital that our community has and was a member of Fitzgibbon Hospital Auxiliary and a large contributor to the Community Cancer Center. Kay was a great supporter and volunteer of The Lyceum Theater in Arrow Rock and was a member of its Special Events Committee. She was a strong supporter of Salt Fork YMCA and had served on its Piccadilly Committee. Kay was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and P.E.O. Chapter GM, where she had served as president until her health no longer permitted it.
In addition to her husband, Steve; she is survived by two children, Allen Plummer (Dawn) of Marshall, and Karla Taylor (Allen “Willie”) of Grain Valley; five grandchildren: Aubrie Evans (Mac), Marc Plummer (Summer), Carley Taylor, Luke Taylor, and Eli Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Rook Evans; as well as the Graves and Harriman families; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one sister, Marian Lea Priester; and one brother, Glenn Sprigg.
