Marshall firefighters were toned out to douse a structure blaze on Monday, July 11.

According to a fire department spokesperson, firefighters were toned out at 5:24 a.m. to a fire at an apartment complex in the 300 block of East Eastwood Street.

Upon arrival one minute later, flames and heavy smoke were noted coming from a second-story apartment on the west end of the building. The occupant of the apartment was not home, and all others in the apartment complex were successfully evacuated without any injuries.

The fire was under control at 5:44 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation of the State Fire Marshal.

Also, Marshall firefighters were dispatched as mutual-aid with the Blackwater Fire Department to help put out a fully-involved tractor-trailer fire on Saturday, July 9.

According to the spokesperson, firefighters were dispatched to the blaze at 7:53 a.m. at the 83 mile marker on Westbound I-70. Traffic was limited to one lane while firefighters tended to the blaze.
