Two Sedalia residents are facing felony charges after authorities conducted a well-being check on a young child.

According to a release from Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders, on June 21, his office conducted a well-being check on a 3-year-old child who reportedly had received burns to his legs. The child was later transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital for care and treatment of his burn injuries. The child spent 14 days in the burn unit, receiving care and treatment for second- and third-degree burns.

During the subsequent investigation, it was learned the child had received the burns on June 12, 2022.

After investigating the report, the child’s mother, Rebecca Stetzenbach, and stepfather, Dylan Stetzenbach, were arrested over the injuries the child received.

According to court documents, Dylan M. Stetzenbach is charged with felonies for abuse or neglect of a child- causing serious emotional or physical injury (no sexual contact); and endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree- causing serious physical injury (no sexual contact).

Rebecca Stetzenbach is charged with two felony counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree- causing serious physical injury (no sexual contact). Bond for each of the accused is fixed at $50,000 cash or surety.

Each subject was arraigned on June 30. Dylan Stetzenbach’s counsel-status hearing and Rebecca Stetzenbach’s bond-reduction hearing are scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
