A 35-year-old Hermann man has been charged with felonies after a reported incident in Lafayette County on July 10.

According to a probable-cause statement, authorities were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person. When law-enforcement officers arrived and tried to confront the subject, they say he fled in a vehicle.

Authorities say the suspect vehicle sped away and reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour on eastbound I-70. The pursuit started at the 52 mile marker and ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed near the 75.2 mile marker. During the pursuit, authorities say the suspect swerved his vehicle, narrowly missing a state trooper’s car. The suspect fled on foot, ran into a pond and did not come out of the pond. After negotiating for about 20 minutes, Thomas Frederick Priester Jr. exited the pond and was arrested.

Court documents say Priester is charged with one count of assault in the second degree- special victim and two counts of resisting arrest. The court has ordered no bond.

Priester pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on July 12. His next hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
