The Sedalia Police Department gives a special shout out to “Going to the Dogs”, a nonprofit organization, which was formed to raise awareness of the needs of law enforcement K9s in the community.

Sedalia P.D. officials say “Going To The Dogs” benefits law-enforcement agencies by purchasing protective vests that are both bullet and stab proof to be worn by K9s within Missouri and Kansas.

Each of these vests costs approximately $1,000, which is minimal compared to the price of the K9 lives. Police K9s are specialized dogs and typically cost between $10,000 to $15,000 each.

Police officials say, “It is important to keep the lives of all first responders safe while they protect our community. “Going To The Dogs” has ensured that our four-legged officer now has the same chance of survival as his human handler when responding to dangerous situations.”

The ballistic vest was purchased from LOF Defense Systems and will be utilized to protect Rocky during high risk situations.
