The Slater City Council approved the first and second readings of several ordinances during its meeting on Tuesday, July 19.

The council discussed an ordinance that allows Mayor Stephen Allegri to sign an application for a United States Department of Agriculture rural development grant. City Administrator Gene Griffith says the grant would help cover the cost of a tractor.

Griffith said the grant would cover 55 percent of the cost of the tractor, which he said was $43,000.

In other news, the council approved the first and second readings of an ordinance that establishes a stop sign on the intersection of Leroy Street and Lincoln Street. The sign is expected to go up next week.
