Monkeypox is a rare disease and cases remain low in Missouri.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services says the overall risk to the public remains low because Monkeypox is not as easily spread as other viruses. It spreads through close skin-to-skin contact with rashes or sores of someone who has Monkeypox.
Symptoms may include:
– Flu-like symptoms; and
– Rash (pimples or blisters that are painful or itchy).
Monkeypox can be spread from the time symptoms start until the rash has healed, all scabs have fallen off, and a fresh layer of skin has formed. This can take several weeks.
