The Marshall City Council discussed the purchase of two Pac-Tech Packer trucks and Armor Equipment trash cans during its meeting on Monday, August 1.

The council discussed the benefits of the toter carts during a previous meeting. The council passed a resolution to accept the quote of Armor Equipment for the purchase of 4,800 toter carts for the price of $327,745. The quote does not cover the cost of assembly or distribution. City Administrator JD Kehrman said it would cost about $30,000 to assembly and distribute the new cans. Kehrman said the cans are estimated to arrive in October.

The city is also seeking to purchase two packer trucks for the municipal Services Department for trash and waste collection purposes. Municipal Services Director Bill Anderson provided details on the trucks.

Anderson said the trucks are tandem axle trucks and will be used for residential areas. Anderson presented a video showcasing what the trucks can do. Anderson said the trucks would help make trash collection more efficient and effective. The trucks are also only able to collect trash from the 96 gallon trash cans the city is purchasing.

Kehrman says the packer trucks have a shorter delivery time than the options the council discussed in previous meetings.

The council voted to approve the resolution to authorize Mayor Dewey Hendrix to accept the quote from Pac-Tech for the purchase of two G1/31 Yard Bandit Tip to Dump Side Loader Packer Trucks for the price of $551,719.89.

The council agreed the next big step in the process was to train sanitation workers and to educate citizens on the new trash system.

It was estimated that the new system could take effect in November or December at the earliest.
